VESSEL
BY MISSY MARTINEZ
My eyes open. I’m blinded by a light so white, so pure it’s heavenly. Suddenly, I’m being raised up. A hospital bed. A white and sterile room. There are three men and two women huddled around a clipboard. I can’t feel my body, but I am calm. Looking down, I can see I’m in a hospital gown.
What happened?
Two burly men hulk through the door wheeling a dolly. Time to go. I’m taken down a series of dizzying corridors until the blinding light of being outside embraces my body. I’m loaded into a large truck, and the metal door slams with a deafening clang.
Darkness.
I don’t know how much time has passed. The door opens and I am wheeled out by the two men. Quickly, I try to scan my surroundings.
A high rise building.
Chandeliers.
Doormen.
I’m pushed into the elevator and we ride straight to the top. Penthouse. A well-dressed man greets us the second the elevator doors open. I try to look at his face, but I’m only able to focus on his mouth. I can’t look at his eyes, nose, body.
Mouth.
As I stare, he signs some papers and I am his.
He wheels me into his loft. Wall to wall concrete. It’s cold. Lifting me off of the dolly, he then sits me on a soft, cigar-brown, calf-leather couch. I still cannot move.
Then I feel his soft hands on the small of my neck. Hands that have never touched dirt. He sweeps my jet-black hair to the side, and click. I hear something like buttons being pressed; he’s typing something. He’s typing something on me. Electricity runs through my body and with each jolt, I feel more alive.
I can move my head.
I look down at my body. Two large, heaving breasts rise and fall with every breath I take. When he approaches me, I look up at him—again, I stop at his mouth and devote all my focus and energy to it. It opens.
“I’m your master. Do you understand me?”
I nod and an unexpected smile comes over my face. This is why I’m here.
“You are here to please me. Nothing else. You are a toy and I will treat you as such. Do you understand?”
An even bigger smile spreads across my face. I open my mouth to speak, but nothing comes out. I am a vessel.
A container.
A hole.
He grabs me by the hand and my body follows. He leads me through his dwelling. More of a compound than it is a home. I like the coldness. We enter a large room and he points to a bed.
“Go,” he commands.
Without the slightest hesitation, I obey and sit on the large, soft bed. His taste in decor is impeccable. Money has shaped him into the perfect man. He stands in front of me and unbuttons his dress shirt. The starch in it is so fresh it almost sounds like crisp construction paper as it’s unbuttoned and dropped to the ground. I reach my hands out to drag down his chest and I notice for the first time my nails are manicured red.
